7-What fantastic creatures did Axel expect to see? He expected to see lizards, whales or birds that lived on Earth millions of years ago.
8-***Haw did Lidenbrock try to find out the depth of the sea? He tied a pickaxe to the end of a long rope and threw it in the sea.
9-Why did the Professor throw a pickaxe tied to the end of a long rope in the sea? To find out how deep the sea was.
10-How did they know that the sea was deep? The pickaxe tied to the long rope didn't touch the bottom.
11-*What happened to the pickaxe after the professor threw it in water? A sea monster bit it.
12-**What marks did they see on the pickaxe? They saw marks of teeth.
13-Why were they frightened during the voyage? Because they saw two sea monsters.
14-When did Axel think that his gun would be useless? Axel thought his gun would be useless against the giant monsters.
15-****What did the monsters do? They attacked each other. One of them killed the other.
16-How did the monsters fight each other? They fought fiercely.
17-***How long did the fight last? It lasted two or three hours.
18-****What was the result of the fight between the monsters? One of the monsters was killed.
19-What did Axel think the dark shape was? He thought it was another sea monster or a huge animal.
20-What was the dark shape? It was an island.

25-What did they try to avoid on Axel Island? They tried to avoid the geyser.

27-**Why didn't the Professor lower the sail? He wanted the storm to take them forward as fast as possible.
28-***How did the storm help them? It took them forward at a great speed.
29-**Why did Axel faint during the storm? Because a ball of fire hit the raft. Every thing was covered in blue flames.
30-What happened when the ball of fire hit the raft? Every thing was covered in blue flames. Axel fainted.
31-What did the skull of the human they found on the shore show? It showed that man had lived on the shores of the sea thousand of years ago.
32-*****What animals did they see in the forest? They saw mammoths
33-***What did the mammoths look like? They looked like elephants but they were much bigger.
34-**How were the mammoths different from elephants? They were much bigger and they had longer tusks.
35-****How did Axel recognize the mammoths? He saw pictures of them in his science books.
36-**How tall was the shepherd? He was more than three metres tall.
37-**What was the shepherd doing? He was looking after the herd of mammoths.
38-*Why did the men run back to the sea? They were afraid of the giant shepherd.
39-When was the professor afraid for the first time? When he saw the giant shepherd.
1-Hans caught a fish which was extinct.
2-Axel thought his gun would be useless against the giant monsters.
3-Although the sea monsters were terrifying, they didn't attack the raft.
4-The fight between the two monsters lasted for two or three hours.
5-They became sure that men had lived on the shore of the sea when they found a skull.
